00:00Today, I brought some items here that will definitely make us travel back in time to
00:05a noble era in human history, when the main weapon for close combat was the sword.
00:11As you will notice in this video, each region, each part of the world developed its own sword
00:16following the same principles, but each one created its own model.
00:20And today I put together an arsenal with some of the most famous and coolest swords and
00:25brought them here to show you.
00:27The first sword we have here is this magnificent ceremonial saber.
00:32Take a look at how wonderful it is.
00:34It starts off with this detail.
00:36These little cords here are just for decoration.
00:38It has a closed metal guard, right?
00:40The handle is for one hand only.
00:43It also has a very interesting pommel.
00:45Its scabbard is all leather with some metal details.
00:48Look at how wonderful it is.
00:50It's a very beautiful sword, but it's a bit awkward because since its blade is very long
00:55and we only have space on the handle for one hand, I don't know if it's really that agile
01:00or easy to maneuver.
01:02And this one here is an identical replica based on the sabers used by the United States Marine
01:09Corps.
01:10On its blade, we can see some artwork engraved here.
01:14In fact, there's even a mention here, United States Marines.
01:17The United States Marine Corps is a separate branch, different from the Navy.
01:23The Navy is one and the Marine Corps is another, but they usually work together.
01:28In fact, it was created even before the founding of the United States and at that time it was
01:33called the Continental Marines.
01:35The soldiers used this sword, but as weapons evolved, swords were gradually set aside.
01:41And this masterpiece here became just a ceremonial artifact.
01:44And a cool detail about this sword is that it's kind of curved, right?
01:49And it has only one edge, meaning only the bottom part here is sharp, and it's not even
01:54along the whole blade.
01:55There's a really sharp tip that was often used to stab enemies.
02:00You have 10 throughout the whole site later.
02:03You can take a look there.
02:04Now we have here a sword that was remarkable in the history of Rome.
02:08A sword used both by gladiators and by soldiers of the Empire.
02:13I'm talking about this gladius here.
02:15This was already a handmade sword.
02:18And it's a short sword made to be very agile, with a very thick and wide blade.
02:23It's sharp on both sides, and the tip is very sharp.
02:27And just like the other one, it's also a one-handed sword.
02:30The gladius is a sword that was used by the Romans, but it was also used by the Vikings.
02:35The swords are very similar.
02:37They follow very similar principles.
02:40Only a few small things are different, and the main characteristic of this sword was that
02:44it could both thrust and cut, but mainly the thrust.
02:48And at the same time that the tip is sharp, the edge of the blade also starts right here.
02:53When the sword penetrated the opponent's armor, it could already pierce and at the same time
02:58cut through everything in its path.
03:00And this is a handcrafted sword made by my friend, Professor Carlos Diniz.
03:05And this sword here is worth approximately 500 res.
03:09Attention passengers, we are now going to head east, more precisely towards Japan.
03:14We have these two swords here now.
03:17This one here is a katana, and this one here is a wakizashi.
03:21The wakizashi has a slightly shorter blade than the katana itself.
03:25Katanas were used for battles in open fields, and that's why the main warriors who used this
03:31sword were the samurai.
03:33Japanese warriors in the feudal period.
03:36They were like the Japanese army, and their counterparts were the ninjas who were hired
03:41to do the dirty work.
03:43And the ninjas' fights usually took place inside buildings.
03:47They were stealthier, which required more effective, shorter weapons.
03:51That's when the wakizashi, a katana with a shorter blade, appeared.
03:55There's another interesting point.
03:57To handle a katana, a sword like this, Japanese warriors needed a lot of concentration,
04:03precision, and strength.
04:05So they had some training.
04:07One of them was tatami cutting.
04:08It seems easy, but any movement in the wrist and the blade already changes direction, causing
04:14the strike to go wrong.
04:15So you need concentration, precision, and the strength has to be very well aligned to be
04:20able to deliver a high quality strike.
04:23And this technique of cutting tatami mats was called Tamshi Shijiri.
04:27Now let's talk about the prices.
04:28This wakizashi cost 1,500 now.
04:32This Akito katana.
04:34It cost 1,950.
04:36I also bought both of them at Croster.
04:39By the way, this little video here was pretty expensive, so go ahead and leave your like.
04:44Because we actually have more swords.
04:45Really cool ones.
04:46From the middle ages.
04:47The main weapons used were the sword, the spear, and the bow and arrow.
04:51By the way, I think I've never brought a spear here on the channel, right?
04:55It would be something interesting.
04:56If you like the idea, leave it in the comments, and we'll bring several spears in the next videos.
05:01And back then, the sword was a short range weapon used to destroy enemies and pierce their armor.
05:09So the sword had to be a little heavier.
05:12And with a much larger blade and handle.
05:15The handle was for holding with both hands.
05:17There was also a guard here to protect your own hands.
05:20And the blade was very long and pointed with two edges.
05:24And that way, the sword could be used both by infantry and cavalry.
05:28Because it was long even while on horseback.
05:31The soldier could reach the enemy.
05:33This sword originated in Europe and this style of sword here.
05:37It became widespread precisely because of its efficiency.
05:41And nowadays, it is recognized both for that and for its beauty.
05:45Which, honestly, there's nothing more to say about it, right?
05:48This sword in my hands is a Honshu broadsword.
05:51It has some very interesting details.
05:54This metallic pommel here, made of steel.
05:56It has this rubberized handle which feels really nice to hold.
06:00And it also has a partial fuller, going up to about half of the sword.
06:05In fact, what's really interesting is what this feature is actually for.
06:08Since these swords were long and heavy, they made this central fuller to remove a bit of
06:13material from the blade.
06:15And make it a little lighter, so you could handle it and have a bit more agility.
06:19Because it's no joke, this thing is heavy to strike with.
06:23If you couldn't hold it with both hands, with just one hand,
06:26you wouldn't have any mobility at all to strike with this.
06:29As for the value of this work of art, it was nothing more, nothing less,
06:33oh my wallet even hurts, 3000 to 3200 res.
06:38The last sword on my list, for sure, is the most unique and eye-catching sword
06:43we have in today's video, which is this one.
06:45Combat Commander Titanage.
06:47Let's open it, it has this really beautiful sheath.
06:50And take a look at it, it's even more beautiful.
06:53It's a sword that looks like a machete.
06:55It's really unique.
06:57It has a gigantic handle, almost the same size as the blade itself.
07:01It's only sharp on this lower part.
07:03It has a nice little tip.
07:04Because it's curved like this, it's main function is for cutting and so on.
07:08And this one here, it follows the style of Krabi swords.
07:12But in this case, the shape of this one is much more exaggerated.
07:16And the Krabi is the main type of Thai sword.
07:19Used in Krabi Krabong, which is the martial art.
07:22Thai-armed martial art.
07:24Krabi is the sword, in this case, this sword here.
07:27And Krabong was the staff, which was also widely used.
07:30So since the staff and the sword were the two most used weapons,
07:34this armed martial art was named Krabi Krabong.
07:36And what I found coolest about this sword here,
07:39is that it's handle is entirely made of nylon fiber,
07:41which makes it really interesting.
07:45Extremely resistant.
07:46And also it's blade, unlike the others, has a coating that's all matte black,
07:51which made it look really nice and totally different
07:53from anything we've ever brought here on the channel.
07:56I bought this sword here also at Croster and it cost me a certain amount.
08:00For 800 Ries.
08:02Well, these then were the swords from our arsenal.
08:05If you want us to make a video just testing all these swords,
08:09just leave a lot of likes and also comment a lot down below.
08:13And in the next videos, we can test all of them.
08:16I hope you really enjoyed this tour we did around the world
08:19and through the history of humanity.
08:21It's really crazy to imagine how these swords were developed over the years,
08:26what needs they were designed to meet and everything else.
08:29I really enjoyed it.
08:31Recording this video.
08:32I hope you enjoyed watching.
08:34Thank you very much.
08:34By the way, we'll see each other in the next video.
08:36We're in this together.
08:37See you next time.
08:38That's it.
08:39Thanks.
08:39See you and goodbye.
