AELLAN was raised female, but since he was a child, he told other people that he was a boy. He was diagnosed as intersex at age 29, which answered many questions he'd had over the years. He explained, "Being intersex is having characteristics of both male and female, biologically. I decided to transition because it was better for me medically and it just helped me feel more like myself. Once I started the testosterone, all the medical issues that I had stopped." He has been with his partner Chantelle for 13 years and transitioned 6 years into their relationship, she was supportive of his decision. "I never had any doubts about my relationship," Iaellan said. "She really encouraged me to get what I needed done for myself before I even got my diagnosis." Chantelle grew up as a Jehovah's Witness but left the religion at 22 years old. Now she makes videos about her experience, and has received a lot of judgement for being with an intersex man. Commenters online have said, "You're going to be so angry at yourself, knowing that you're soon going to be destroyed and there is nothing that you can do about it," and "Stay away from me, Satan," and "This world has reached levels of wickedness like never before."

00:00I have both male and female parts, and I found love.
00:03My followers think that I'm going to hell
00:05for marrying an intersex man.
00:07Stay away from me, Satan.
00:09You're soon going to be destroyed.
00:10We're judged because I transitioned six years
00:13into our relationship.
00:14I get things like, are you a male or a female?
00:18Or do you have a P or a V?
00:21I worried about if Chantel would miss being with a woman.
00:26I think that I didn't account for how it was going to feel.
00:31I'm Aylan, and this is my partner, Chantel.
00:34Ready?
00:34Who initiated the first kiss?
00:37Who said I love you first?
00:40Okay, post it.
00:42My content is just bringing awareness to being intersex.
00:47I get a lot like, what's intersex?
00:50Isn't that just trans?
00:51Being transgender is transitioning from either male to female
00:56or female to male.
00:57Being intersex is having characteristics of both male and female biologically.
01:03The most that I get on social media is questions about my genitals,
01:08like what I have.
01:09I get things like, okay, wait, so are you a male or a female?
01:15Do you have a P or a V?
01:21I was raised female.
01:23I was the youngest of nine children.
01:26Since I was like two years old, my mom says that I was telling myself or telling other people
01:32that I was a boy.
01:33My actual diagnosis, I was 29 years old.
01:37I had a kidney issue and the doctor who diagnosed me, he was asking me questions about my genitals.
01:45He was like, I know these questions are weird, but this doesn't happen to people that are in shape.
01:52They figured it was more hormonal.
01:54And that's what really started me looking into getting the proper testing done.
01:59The diagnosis definitely gave me answers.
02:02All the things I've been dealing with my entire life.
02:04I decided to transition because it was better for me medically.
02:09And it just helped me feel more like myself.
02:12And once I started the testosterone, all the medical issues that I had stopped.
02:17I never had any doubts about my relationship.
02:20She really encouraged me to get what I needed done for myself before I even got my diagnosis.
02:27We have been together for 13 years.
02:30I transitioned six years into our relationship.
02:32I've always seen an island like this, so it hasn't really changed too much.
02:40I think he's just gotten sexier.
02:44We met in 2010.
02:47Really, as soon as we locked eyes with each other, I don't know,
02:50I just felt something inside of myself, like a magnet inside of me.
02:54I am bisexual or pansexual.
02:58I just fall in love with the person.
03:00It doesn't really matter what gender they are.
03:02I'd consider myself to be straight because I just love women.
03:07When he told me that he was going to have to either go on testosterone or estrogen,
03:14there wasn't really a question in my mind which route he was going to go.
03:18I honestly never thought that he would transition because of the way that family felt about it.
03:28Him having the courage to finally do it made me really proud of him.
03:34I grew up one of a very strict religion.
03:37I wasn't allowed to date like regular people would unless I was going to get married.
03:43When I was 22 years old, my father was involved in a serious motorcycle accident.
03:51And in the religion, you're not allowed to get blood transfusions.
03:55That whole situation in dealing with my father passing in the hospital made me realize that I
04:03didn't want to be a part of that religion anymore.
04:05When I left, a lot of my family stopped speaking to me.
04:09I started doing videos for social media about what it was like growing up.
04:14I received quite a bit of hate from the religion on that page.
04:19People judge us because I grew up super religious and I married an intersex man.
04:25You're going to be so angry at yourself knowing that you're soon going to be destroyed and it
04:29is nothing that you can do about it. Stay away from me, Satan.
04:34This world has reached levels of wickedness like never before.
04:38A lot of my comments will be really, really long from these people.
04:41I apparently make them very angry.
04:46And this is our literal reactions to these comments.
04:49We're just cracking up laughing.
04:51Now that I'm out, it honestly makes me sad that this is what people believe.
04:59Most of our comments that we get on videos we post together are positive.
05:03Get it, King. I'm here for this.
05:06All I see is a sexy person.
05:08The way you stand grounded in your truth is powerful.
05:10It's giving strength, self-love, and fine as hell all at once.
05:15I think some family members were a little bit unsure.
05:18Babe, can you get the plates for me?
05:20I had a sibling say to me, well, you must have paid a lot of money for that
05:24because I changed your diaper when you were little.
05:26So my sister's going to come over and talk about some of her concerns.
05:29When Aylin first told me that he was intersex, I worried about if Chantel would miss being with a woman.
05:39I would like to ask Chantel if she misses a side of Aylin that no longer is there.
05:46I don't think that we've really had those type of conversations with her before.
05:51Hi.
05:53Hi.
05:55Come on down.
05:57You want to look at some old pictures?
05:59Sure.
06:00You know, we love looking at pictures.
06:03Look at that.
06:04I mean, look at the discomfort in that picture.
06:08Right.
06:09There we go.
06:10Yep.
06:10There you go.
06:11There's an action shot right there.
06:13Did you have any thoughts about when he transitioned about our relationship or reservations about that?
06:20The only thing that I did wonder is if you were going to, you know, be a little bit sad
06:30about...
06:31The changes that he was going to go through and whether I was going to...
06:35Right.
06:36If you were going to miss, you know...
06:38Certain things.
06:39Certain things, yes.
06:40I think for me, because of my sexuality and not really looking at somebody's gender,
06:47it didn't matter to me what decision he made, whether he stayed female or transitioned,
06:54that love wasn't going to change.
06:56You know, when we first met each other, the first thing that attracted me to him were his eyes,
07:02and those have remained the same.
07:04There's just a little bit more facial hair now.
07:07I would say that him going through top surgery, that I think that I didn't account for how it was
07:15going to feel, but I'm really happy with the results and I'm glad that he's happy.
07:21Is it difficult for you to separate the two, like me being your brother now compared to me being your
07:28sister growing up?
07:30Not at all.
07:32I see it as like two different people.
07:35Sometimes it's even hard for me to remember...
07:41When it was different.
07:42When it was different.
07:43...Islan as a little girl.
07:44Oh yeah.
07:45I knew you guys would be together forever. I'm so proud of you. With everything. I mean, anything you do.
07:54What I love about Islan is the way he cares for people and that he loves.
08:01She respects me for who I am, so I don't have to pretend or I can just be me.
08:07One word.
08:08Oh my goodness.
08:08Tell me what you love doing most of you know.
08:13I can't say what I want to say.
08:21Her heart. I think she's really helped me embrace who I am.
08:27Our relationship works because we're real.
08:30What I would say to people that judge our relationship is,
08:33you wish you had a relationship like this.
08:35You could learn something from us.
08:46We'll be right back and learnven.
08:48A whole committee championships in the bathroom,
08:48were clear that some evenings don't ease all the way up,
08:49but thanks for taking on and seeing you and with whom I am taking off the cafe on.
08:52Listen to yourself.
