00:10Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today we're taking a look at five things the Nintendo Switch 2 has
00:15excelled in, and five things that could have been better. Before we begin, we publish new
00:21videos all week long. So be sure to subscribe to Mojo Plays, and ring the bell to be notified
00:25about our latest videos. It nailed increased size and durability. For some of us older folk,
00:34the Nintendo Switch was an impressive machine, but its size made some games painful to play.
00:39The Switch was somewhat small for those of us with bigger hands, thus causing cramps when playing
00:45intense games. By comparison, the Switch 2 felt like a godsend, with its bigger screen, bigger
00:52Joy-Con controllers in sturdier frame. It also doesn't feel like the controllers could slide
00:58off of the console if something tiny goes haywire. Really, it was a smart move to utilize steel and
01:04magnets to keep the Joy-Cons attached. That is some serious innovation. Each Joy-Con 2 controller can
01:12be used as a mouse, opening up even more ways to play in compatible games. It flubbed Switch Online
01:20drip feed. Switch Online plus expansion pack will be getting a new classic game library exclusive to
01:27Nintendo Switch 2. Given that the Switch Online GameCube app is exclusive to Switch 2, it feels fair
01:33to put this one bit of software on the list. When the app was announced, there was a little hope
01:39inside
01:39of us that maybe, maybe we'd have close to 10 titles in the catalog before we hit the console's one
01:45year
01:46anniversary. Don't get us wrong, the games that have been added already are all great, but as of August
01:522026, we have only gotten two GameCube games added to the catalog for this year. Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness
02:02and Super Mario Sunshine. Dude! Miyamoto! Furukawa! What's the holdup? Why has the Virtual Boy app seen more
02:12support this year than any of the other platforms? You guys had the engine firing off on all cylinders in
02:19the
02:19last half of 2025? What happened? It nailed storage space. We won't lie, it does suck that we have to
02:41worry about another brand new format for storage in the form of micro SD Express. Some of us are just
02:49going to refuse to buy those, and thankfully, we may never have to. The Switch 2 has a pretty solid
02:55amount of internal storage, clocking in at 256 gigabytes. Considering Nintendo's games rarely ever
03:02exceed 20 gigabytes, you can end up fitting a great amount of games onto the console. So, how badly do
03:09you really need even more storage? Are you really juggling a ton of games at all times?
03:22It flubbed, lacking personality in UI. The Nintendo Switch's UI was kind of a bummer,
03:29and it still is. This era of minimalism that we've been in for the past decade and a half
03:35needs to stop, alright? We aren't expecting Jackson Pollock paintings for UI, but really,
03:41would it kill Nintendo to give us some themes to give our consoles a bit more personality?
03:46History repeated itself when the Switch 2 launched, and once again, we got standard boxes on a black or
03:53white background, void of color, flair, and charm. Look, it doesn't damage how great the console can be
04:01by that much, but come on, at least take a cue from PlayStation where backgrounds change with the
04:07game you're highlighting. It nailed an improved storefront. A major problem with the original
04:14Switch was how abysmally slow it was to browse the digital storefront. The store would lag so badly
04:21that it almost made the dang thing unusable. Seriously, it was like going back to the PS3 storefront.
04:28Remember that nightmare? The Switch 2 has vastly improved it. Not only does it now function smoothly,
04:35it also opens up a lot quicker. You can search games about as fast as you can type,
04:40loading new pages of games doesn't take a ton of time. Man, why wasn't it this smooth on the
04:45original Switch? It flubbed battery life. If there is one thing that we did not miss about portable
05:01gaming, it's dealing with battery life. Some games are kind and don't demand a ton of power.
05:07Others are insatiable and want all of the resources available in one go. When it comes to the Switch 2,
05:14man, it feels like I can't go more than two hours without getting hit with the low battery warning.
05:18Even when I'm playing Yoshi and the Mysterious Book or Splatoon Raiders, I can feel the console heating
05:24up more than it probably should. It would have been nice if we could have squeezed another hour or two
05:29for
05:29the battery. Alas, decisions were made, and maybe in all honesty, I shouldn't be on the couch for
05:36several hours at a time staring at a screen. It nailed download speeds.
05:58The Switch was notorious for having incredibly long download times for games, updates, even
06:04something as simple as patches. What do you mean I gotta wait three hours because the game added four
06:09levels? Well, the download times are much, much more tolerable on Switch 2. Downloading a 10GB or
06:17even a 20GB game now only takes a handful of minutes. Of course, this all depends on your
06:22download speeds, your internet service provider, the whole nine yards. But even at the cheaper plans,
06:27you shouldn't have to worry about slow times compared to the original Switch. Hopefully.
06:32It flubbed matching competitors in performance.
06:36In Elden Ring, you are atonished. An individual with special strength. The power of grace.
06:44Even with the upgrades in power, it is a real shame that the Switch 2 cannot fully commit to the
06:49matching... cannot fully commit to matching the power of the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series XS.
06:55Yes, it does output video at 4K resolution, and the framerate skyrockets to 120 frames per second,
07:03supposedly. For some reason, though, a ton of games cannot seem to get running at that capacity on
07:08Switch 2. And even if they do match the resolution and framerate, it comes at a bit of a cost
07:14in visual
07:15clarity. It's nowhere near as bad as the original Switch, but even so, things could be better.
07:20It nailed performance improvements.
07:34Yes, this seems odd to say, given we just went over how it's lacking in tech. However,
07:40there are games and developers that show that the current-gen console experience
07:44can work on a handheld like the Switch 2. Titles like Lies of P, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle,
07:51Orbitals, and Cyberpunk 2077 run at least at a crisp 30 frames per second. On top of that,
07:59they all have the games stored inside of the Switch 2's tiny red cartridges. This really is
08:05a magical machine, and it's a real shame that the majority of AA and AAA games won't take the time
08:11to actually learn how the machine works and how to get their games stored on the cartridge properly.
08:20Before we continue, check out this single from Current, EDM Transform. Check out the full track and album below.
08:32And lastly, it flubbed Joy-Con problems.
08:37The SL and SR buttons are bigger for greater comfort and control when playing with a Joy-Con 2 held
08:44horizontally.
08:45While Joy-Con drift doesn't seem to be as much of a problem anymore as it used to be for
08:50the original Switch,
08:51there are still some issues with the Switch 2's Joy-Con controllers. For starters, the analog sticks still
08:58have a limited amount of space for movement, making certain actions that only require a slight tilt
09:03harder to pull off. But the biggest issue of all is simply how awkward the entire design still is.
09:10You've got this square controller with buttons that doesn't always execute your inputs instantly,
09:16and the L and R buttons are a prime example of that. And this is why so many people try
09:21to save up for
09:22the more traditionally designed controllers. What's something you like most about the Switch 2?
09:27Is there anything that you wish was improved or fixed? Let us know down in the comments,
09:32and don't forget to subscribe to MojoPlays.
