00:00What a year!
00:02More members than ever before.
00:05I met a woman recently who said to me,
00:08I'm not making ends meet month to month.
00:11I'm making ends meet prayer by prayer.
00:15I said I would always make clear
00:18that this party will always stand up
00:21for people like that woman.
00:24Tax!
00:33We are the party that wants to tax the very richest,
00:37bring our public services back into public hands
00:40and end rip-off Britain.
00:54That's the message that helped us win record numbers of votes
00:58because we are sure about who we stand up for
01:02and, crucially, we are just as sure
01:05about who we are standing up against.
01:16Even when there are rooms full of people who disagree with us,
01:20and there often are,
01:22we will go into the lion's den
01:24and stand for our principles,
01:27or as the young people tell me,
01:29we stand on business.
01:32Stroud are one of the biggest council home builders
01:35in the whole of England.
01:37That's what Greens deliver.
01:49More Greens elected?
01:50Well, that means more homes being built,
01:52more people getting their foot on the housing ladder
01:55for the very first time,
01:57more families having that incredible feeling
02:00of putting a key in the door for the first time
02:04of their very first home.
02:06And while our councils are delivering in their communities,
02:09we fight for change on the national level too.
02:12So in every corner of the country,
02:15at every stage of life,
02:16we can all have a place,
02:18a place we can call home.
02:21So that means Green MPs fighting for an end
02:24to the leasehold trap.
02:26For the people I meet who are living in defective buildings
02:30and they are terrified for their safety.
02:34So that buying your first home
02:36is both a guarantee of security
02:38and it's an important stepping stone
02:41to whatever might happen next.
02:43We need to stop governments
02:45using the blunt tool of interest rates
02:48to control inflation.
02:50I meet people with mortgages
02:52who are constantly worried about renewing.
02:54They tell me they crave certainty about the future.
02:58And for the families I have met
03:00who have been stuck on waiting lists for years,
03:03desperately waiting for the government
03:05to build the homes they need.
03:08It is time for a serious plan
03:10to build council homes at scale.
03:15And of course, of course,
03:16the first vital step
03:18to ending the runaway cost of housing,
03:20saying, well, it must be tackling
03:23the scandalous cost of private rents.
03:33And that's exactly why
03:36RMP Carla Denia
03:37has been fighting tooth and nail
03:39to get this government to do something
03:41about the affordability crisis
03:44in private renting.
03:45Because for too long,
03:47landlords have been able to hike prices
03:49way above wages,
03:51leaving renters forced
03:52to meet the cost
03:54of just keeping a roof over their heads,
03:57cutting back and back and back
03:59on everything else.
04:01And it's not just renters
04:02who lose out, by the way.
04:03It's taxpayers too.
04:05Over the next year,
04:07more than a third of the money
04:08that the DWP will spend
04:10on housing benefits
04:11will go straight into the pockets
04:13of private landlords,
04:15subsidising their extortionate rents.
04:18That's £13.4 billion
04:21that could be spent
04:23building new council homes,
04:26repairing or creaking housing stock,
04:29bringing homes lost through right to buy
04:31back into public hands.
04:33That is why...
04:43That's why today,
04:44we are calling on this government
04:46to put in place
04:47a three-year emergency break
04:50on private rents.
05:03No rent rises above CPI,
05:05wage growth or 2%,
05:07whichever is lower.
05:09No sudden hikes,
05:10no evictions under the guise
05:12of rent rises,
05:13no more uncertainty,
05:15no more fear.
05:19A room shouting shame
05:21because it's so obvious
05:22this summer's fires
05:24should have been
05:24the final nail in the coffin
05:26for new oil and gas.
05:28We know that drilling
05:29for new fossil fuels,
05:30it won't bring down bills.
05:32We know it won't make us more secure.
05:34And we know it locks us
05:35into a hotter,
05:37more dangerous climate.
05:38And we say no.
05:39No more fossil fuel extraction
05:41and a clean energy revolution now.
05:47What is a clean, green revolution?
05:49Well, that means
05:50every single home transformed
05:52to highest energy efficiency.
05:54We need to be kept cool in the summer,
05:56warm in the winter,
05:57and it keeps our bills down too.
06:00It means sticking to the plan
06:02to cut emissions
06:02from polluting vehicles
06:04so our children can breathe
06:06clean air in our streets
06:07and parents can breathe easier
06:10knowing their kids
06:11actually have a future
06:12they can look forward to.
06:14And it means...
06:23And it means a massive expansion
06:26of community energy.
06:28So our power is cheap.
06:30Our power is clean.
06:31Our power is in our hands.
06:35A few weeks ago,
06:36we heard that the government
06:38had delayed giving the green light
06:40to new oil and gas drilling
06:41at Rosebank and Jackdaw.
06:44Why?
06:45Because they're worried
06:46about losing votes to the Greens.
06:48Now that makes me hopeful.
06:50Because that is the difference
06:52our party makes.
06:53Vote Green
06:54and watch Labour move!
07:13Voting Green
07:14between general elections
07:15with our six and five MPs
07:18is the most powerful vote
07:20you can make.
07:21Voting Green is powerful
07:23and here's two reasons why.
07:25First, more Greens
07:27in elected positions
07:28making the changes
07:30our neighbours,
07:31our communities
07:31so desperately need.
07:34And second,
07:35at general elections
07:37the government changes.
07:39But between general elections
07:41we change the government.
