00:06welcome to mojo plays and today we're looking at some of the most bizarre games across
00:10playstation's history the most western players never got the chance to try
00:21but before we dive in we publish new content all week long
00:24so be sure to subscribe and ring the bell to get notified about our latest videos
00:30and donesia
00:39not to be confused with the very similarly spelled real-world country developer vanpool's and donesia
00:46released on the ps2 in 2001 it follows a young boy suddenly transported to the strange titular island
00:52and in order to make it home he must gain mastery over new abilities called emo powers which just
00:58sounds like a lot of us in high school
01:03what's interesting is that different emotions work differently depending on the npc as well as the
01:08time of day not only that but there's also a 10-day time loop resetting the world while keeping your
01:13major progress there's 50 kooky oddballs to communicate with drawing on their emotions as
01:18well as yours to solve puzzles it's a unique blend of ideas though not surprising it didn't release
01:24outside of japan
01:31pepsi man
01:39by far one of the most famous playstation games to never make it outside of japan if only because
01:44it's such an oddity in 1996 pepsi's japan branch introduced a new mascot named pepsi man and three
01:52years later the soft drink hero starred in his own video game on sony's first console
02:04it's an endless runner with pepsi man navigating obstacles and hazards on his way to deliver an ice
02:10cold pepsi to someone in need even weirder than the fact that this exists at all is that all of
02:15the
02:15stages except for the last in pepsi city are based on locations in the usa and in between each level
02:22are segments of a stereotypical american guy commentating on the game
02:31pepsi is
02:33chain dive
02:42this game did come close to a larger release a demo disc came with issue 79 of official playstation
02:49magazine but sony ultimately chose not to localize it its plot is fairly simple following a warrior named
02:56shark as he defends his planet from an alien threat and as you go along you save the planet elms
03:02many princesses
03:08maybe sony felt western players wouldn't be keen on this setup but the gameplay was also pretty
03:13different from other arcadey 2d action games at the time shark wields a sword that freezes on attack
03:19and a grapple beam he uses to fling himself around the stages regardless these days chain dive has a
03:24reputation as a hidden gem
03:33doco demo isio franchise
03:42so far there has only been one game in this series to release in north america on the playstation vita
03:48otherwise it's an entire series most western players have probably never heard of beginning with the
03:541999 original on the playstation the virtual pet series has players care for pokepi or pocket people
04:00by feeding them talking with them and interacting with them through a variety of silly activities and
04:05scenarios
04:09funnily enough one of the characters a white cat named toro became so popular that sony used him as a
04:15mascot in japan the first game could be used with the pocket station a peripheral that was also never
04:21released outside of japan and most entries require teaching phrases to your pokepi that are
04:26specific to japanese lifestyle so it makes sense why it has remained in japan
04:36ufo a day in the life
04:44released on the original playstation this adventure game follows a lone alien trying to rescue their
04:49allies after they've crash landed into an apartment building on earth the only problem is they're now
04:54invisible requiring you to solve puzzles using a special camera you then feed the film to a giant head
05:00on your mother ship as one does transferring your friends to the ship somehow
05:11other than that bonkers premise it's also got a strange art style giving humans giant mutated
05:17looking heads there definitely weren't many games like this on the original playstation interestingly
05:23ufo a day in the life was re-released in 2026 on ps5 and nintendo switch 2 but still only
05:30in japan
05:35kuma uta
05:44now we're getting to the really weird stuff kuma uta meaning bear song was released for the ps2 in 2003
05:51and follows a polar bear with dreams of becoming a singer you don't play as the polar bear though
05:56you're just his friend who helps him come up with songs
06:05because you feed him lines each performance is going to be different from player to player
06:10this procedural layer without the use of pre-recorded songs was actually pretty impressive for the time
06:15though not very deep in a gameplay sense there's no denying how unique kuma uta is however much of
06:22it including the enka style the polar bear sings in is very specific to japanese culture and humor
06:31lsd dream emulator
06:49lsd dream emulator is more of an interactive experience than a game while the gameplay is
06:55the visuals are clearly a trip
07:04you navigate several surreal landscapes and every time you touch something you're teleported to a
07:09different one levels or dreams end after 10 minutes and each subsequent one gets weirder and weirder
07:16this wasn't the only quote unquote game that sato released in his career he actually had no
07:23interest in the idea of video games but wanted to use consoles as a way to create modern art he
07:29chose
07:29playstation because nintendo and sega felt more like toy companies and he took inspiration from
07:34a dream diary kept by an employee at publisher asmic ace entertainment for over a decade
07:45natsuiro high school seishun hakusho
07:55in addition to holding a guinness world record for the longest video game title ever the full name of
08:01which would take up the entire entry's time just for me to read it this game is pretty weird and
08:06by weird
08:06you play as a high school exchange student who joins the journalism club getting scoops and taking
08:18photos for the paper while choosing which gal to date the weird part is that the game gives players
08:24the ability to take upskirt photos with built-in stealth mechanics and even consequences should you
08:29get caught doing so you can play the game without being a creep but with gameplay designed around it and
08:35with it even referenced in the aforementioned record-breaking title it was clearly a key part of the devs intent
08:47screaming mad george's paranoia scape
08:59jojitani also known as screaming mad george is another japanese artist of a different medium who
09:04decided to design a video game for the original playstation for paranoia scape tani drew from his
09:09background in producing gory special effects and film for one of the platform's more visually visceral titles
09:25in addition to alarming imagery like giant screaming mouths on the floor and a ceiling composed solely of
09:31eyeballs the gameplay is a strange mix of first-person shooter and pinball as you bounce a brain engulfed in
09:38blue flame through obstacles using flippers made of bone needless to say it's one of these stranger games
09:44which is released on any playstation console
09:53if you love games be sure to check out watchmojo's new game terrible influence just launched for purchase

10:15to play
10:16terrible influence super galdelic hour
10:25released on the ps2 in 2001 it should be immediately obvious why super galdelic hour was never released
10:32outside of japan it follows a beautiful space scientist who transforms four animal-like dolls
10:38into similarly beautiful somewhat scantily clad young women however despite being a scientist she uses
10:44this technology to host a game show
10:55choosing between the four players then compete in a variety of mini games activities range from normal
11:01like boxing and jump roping to outright strange like a pie throwing contest to the face and whack-a-mole
11:07with a giant lollipop mechanically the game is simple as it's just a collection of mini games but
11:13that's one of the weirdest setups for a game we've ever heard of
11:22do you know of any other odd games that were never released outside of japan
11:25let us know about them in the comments and we'll see you next time
