00:00Well naval cooperation between India and France is an older story now and it's been going along
00:05for a long time so it's deeply rooted first of all in our common interest notably in the Indian
00:11Ocean France is a riverine country although France the metropolis in Europe but we have
00:17interests and possessions in the Indian Ocean and so we've been and we have also strategic
00:25interests which are which go even beyond the islands the French islands in the Indian Ocean
00:31in terms of trades commercial routes etc on which we depend so it's of a high interest for France
00:39to continue growing this cooperation with India and as I said it's been existing for a long time
00:47I was in the navy before I went to India in I remember a very nice stop in Goa for
00:53example
00:54for the Varuna exercise which took place I think in the med Mediterranean this year
01:01and so this is the basis or one of these examples of our cooperation but our cooperation
01:06was much beyond it's it's also about equipment and how we operate this equipment it's about
01:14interoperability so this is something which is very lively I know that India is equipped partially
01:21with French equipment like the Scorpion submarines and like the Rafale on their aircraft carrier
01:28and behind that there is also obviously industrial cooperation and military cooperation which is
01:39justified by the interest that we have that we share and that we have in common in the Indian Ocean
01:46and beyond
01:48so will we see an Indian pavilion at Euronaval this November and how do we Indian industries participation this year
01:57yes we will see an Indian pavilion at Euronaval this year and we are very happy to welcome our Indian
02:05friends to Euronaval
02:06Euronaval as you know probably Euronaval is the biggest Euronaval is the biggest Euronaval exhibition in the world dedicated to
02:12Euronaval
02:13and this year is going to be is going to be a very dynamic exhibition as we increase the number
02:20of exhibitors
02:23by about 45 percent so there will be about 700 companies coming to Euronaval this year
02:31a very sharp increase and amongst them there will be this Indian pavilion which will be a first time
02:37which is also a sign of the time and a sign of the cooperation between
02:41the Indian industry and other industries from other nations notably the French one but not the only one
02:48and so there will be an Indian pavilion with about 10 Indian companies big ones smaller ones
02:56shipyards providers the supply chain will be present people or companies providing electronics software
03:06sensors building ships also as well so yes an Indian pavilion which is the sign of the good health
03:14of and the potential of the cooperation that can be developed with the French but also with other nations
03:21which are present at Euronaval so the Indian navy is modernizing rapidly with new submarines and surface
03:29ships yes what key technologies at Euronaval will be most relevant for Indians maritime future well it's for
03:38the Indians to decide what is more more relevant for them what I could answer is more is more general
03:45considerations which probably apply also to the Indian navy uh Indian is a huge country with a huge coastline
03:52and uh which needs strategic depth in terms of maritime as well and and and they need to pro to
03:59protect
04:00their interest at sea not only on their coastline but also also much further uh it's a it's a world
04:06power
04:07India so there is a need obviously to be able to project this power and also to protect your coastlines
04:14so there is a need for seagoing ships big big platforms which are able to sustain rough seas and
04:21and to deploy for a long time away from home and there is probably a need also to adapt to
04:28the technological
04:29changes that we are seeing in the world nowadays and these technological changes uh are coming at a very
04:37fast pace uh and it's mainly or it's mainly is driven notably by the uh um digitalization of our equipments
04:48nowadays hardware is not the only uh issue that we must address uh and and we are very much driven
04:57by
04:57software and the speed of evolution of software so for the Indian navy as per many of us there is
05:04a need
05:05to adapt to this speed of evolution there is a need for and specifically for the Indian navy for for
05:11robust
05:12big platforms but also to uh multiply or demultiply their capacities for uh more autonomous platforms as well
05:21which are able to uh expand uh the capacities of bigger platforms so these mixed or hybrid fleets
05:27between and that's probably the next evolutions that we're facing in navy's generally speaking
05:32between big and strong platforms which will still continue to exist and be relevant i think
05:38and smaller ones which will create create mass which will create um mass in terms of sensors and
05:46capacity to see but also mass in terms of uh attack or defense means that that are games game changers
05:53and on
05:54top of that there is also obviously uh ai which is going to change a lot the way we operate
06:01uh being
06:02able to helping us to uh um to to um analyze the huge mass of data that numerous sensors are
06:15collecting
06:17helping helping helping helping helping people to take decisions quickly and faster than the adversary
06:22and also um helping uh people to develop our industries to develop platforms and equipments that
06:31that are more and more autonomous and on which to which uh human people can delegate some many tasks and
06:38more and more tasks
06:46uh
