00:00USC, Washington, Tennessee, Auburn.
00:03A couple of teams that took some tough losses last week
00:07where they're going to try and respond here.
00:09I think the USC loss was the tougher of the two
00:15for a few reasons.
00:21USC came in at home against a Ducks team
00:27who have kind of flashed consistently.
00:30They're not as good as they were supposed to be.
00:32And I, by the way, don't think them beating USC
00:35all of a sudden means, oh, Oregon actually our national title contender
00:38is one of the five.
00:38I don't think that that's how that works.
00:41But it also happened really through the play of a backup quarterback.
00:49Now, I'm well aware that Dylan Rayola
00:51is the single most high-profile backup quarterback
00:54in the country, but still, you know,
01:00had to step in in the middle of a game.
01:02He also had to step in following a very scary situation
01:09that USC couldn't have handled worst in the moment.
01:15And I think the phrase is clutching pearls.
01:19Not really my style.
01:22I understand that it can be difficult
01:25when a guy slides to pull up.
01:28I didn't think that that was the clearest case
01:33of it being tough to pull up.
01:35But what is not difficult after hitting someone like that
01:39is to not celebrate that hit
01:42and then keep celebrating that hit
01:45and then all of your teammates celebrating that hit
01:49and the end result was exactly what USC deserved,
01:53which was probably seeing their season end again
01:59and us asking how long are they going to give Lincoln Riley here at USC?
02:10I think there's an argument that the Trojans actually should just accept this.
02:15And what I mean is he recruits well.
02:18Maybe one year he'll break through.
02:20I'm not sure we're going to get a better coach than Lincoln Riley.
02:23We are who we are.
02:24We're not Ohio State.
02:25We're not Indiana.
02:27We're not Oregon.
02:28But eventually, hopefully, one day we break through.
02:31But I'm not sure that's what's going to happen here, Dave.
02:33This feels like a guy who could be coaching for his job.
02:37Not today, but also, who knows, man?
02:44It's loud.
02:46It is loud.
02:47And I just don't think you can lose that game at home
02:50when a backup quarterback comes in.
02:52And yes, like they got what they deserve
02:54based on the fact that the reaction was worse than the crime.
02:57And I 100% agree.
02:58It wasn't a great look on the field.
03:00Not the worst we've seen.
03:02But then the reaction, like, that's suspendable, automatic.
03:04Quite frankly, I would have pulled the kid's scholarship.
03:06But that's just me.
03:07As far as USC is concerned, it is just one loss.
03:10They still could play for a Big Ten title game.
03:13They still could go to the playoff.
03:14He has all that in front of him, Lincoln Riley.
03:16I just don't think they're good enough.
03:18And your point about you're a top 25 team, you recruit well,
03:22you got a good coach.
03:24Auburn was in this situation for pretty much two decades
03:27where they would get good recruiting classes.
03:29They had good coaches in there.
03:31They just couldn't get over that Alabama thing.
03:34And then they did, and they won a national title.
03:37And then they beat Alabama, and they won a national title.
03:40And I think USC is very similar to Auburn's profile a decade ago
03:45where, like, you're there.
03:46Every year you want to pick them.
03:48You got the talent, but you got roadblocks.
03:51And USC has roadblocks.
03:52They lost to a team that was supposed to win
03:55the national title this year in Oregon.
03:57And we both agree that they're not as good as we thought they were.
04:00But what you can't do is lose a humongous game at home
04:05where everyone wants you to stand up and prove it to a backup quarterback.
04:09I don't care if it's Dylan Raiola.
04:11You knocked out the starter.
04:12You got to win the game.
04:14Like, this is not a guy who was getting first-team reps.
04:16This is not a guy who knew what was going on,
04:18and he just shoved it right down your throat.
04:20And you had all the momentum in the world.
04:23So that's a bad loss.
04:24I think that's worse than the loss we're going to talk about next with Tennessee.
04:28USC has to step up today.
04:30Unfortunately, you're playing a really good Washington team
04:34that somebody in my ear told me to the break that's going to cover this game.
04:37So Washington has won five of the last six ATS against USC.
04:43They've played this team well.
04:44Well, you're not going to go out there and get someone better than Lincoln Riley,
04:47so I don't think you make that move.
04:49Who are you going to get?
04:50Like, who's better than that for this program?
04:52So I would keep them around and just at some point you will break through.
04:57Maybe you shouldn't have joined the Big Ten.
04:59I understand the money is the money,
05:01but you'd be winning the Pac-12 every single year,
05:03what's left of it, and going to the playoff every year.
05:06USC's problem is the same problem Auburn had.
05:09You got teams better than you above you, and you just do.
05:13Auburn got a kick six and went and won the national title.
05:16That's what it's going to take.
05:17USC needs to beat Oregon.
05:19They need to beat Indiana,
05:20and they need to beat Ohio State if they're going to get there.
